Almost all the rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 said that at least one of the models would come with a dual lens camera, opening up all manner of photography applications. But the Cupertino giant may have just scrapped those plans entirely.

According to a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, a source at Foxconn says staff there have been told the “dual camera iPhone 7 was cancelled because of immature technology.”

It is rumoured that the iPhone 7 will not have dual cameras due to immature technology

This rumour gets more credence than some because, despite many reports and even some leaked photos of the dual camera model, more recent rumours already indicated that Sony might not be up to providing all the sensors Apple needs (due in part to damage caused by the Kumamoto earthquake).

Whether or not ‘immature technology’ has anything to do with it, this rumor gives us reason to doubt we’ll see a dual camera in any of the versions of the iPhone 7. In the meantime, we’ll keep our fingers crossed the rumor is false and hope to see some cool camera tech when the new phones are expected to arrive in September.
