Images purporting to show the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 model have been released a fortnight before the official launch.

The pictures of the S7, which apparently show the back of the standard model and the larger, curved-screen ‘Edge’ version, emerged on Vietnamese tech website ReviewDao and on the Chinese social network Weibo.

SamMobile reports that the camera seems to be flatter and more open than it was on S6, apparently confirming rumours, and the back seems to be made of plastic rather than glass. The site stresses that this may be a prototype model, and we shouldn’t take it as an accurate impression of how the final model will look.

In the image purporting to show the S7 Edge the phone displays the results of an AnTuTu benchmark test, the Independent reports, which labels the phone as an SM-G9350 – the supposed model number of the S7.

The number in green, 134704, indicates the phone’s technical performance, and such a figure would be expected for a phone with the S7’s rumoured features.

The S7 will be unveiled officially at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 21 February.
