Samsung: A foldable smartphone marketed early 2017?
Smartphone screen is flexible such as a book or a scroll …
With sales in the notebook stalled and slightly falling from 28 to 25% market share in 2015, Samsung may have found a solution to increase profits.
It is rumoured that the South Korean giant may have developed a smartphone with a foldable screen. According to GQ magazine, it could be announced in late 2016 or in January 2017, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas (USA). Marketing should follow in the second quarter of the same year.
A “book” or as “parchment”?
If the rumours speak of an already functional prototype, we do not yet know the characteristics of the future product. It could be a foldable smartphone as a book, with a 5-inch display that would stretch to 7 inches in open mode, according to GQ .
Unless the prototype is closer to the “scroll” mode with a screen taking place from a tube. A tip discovery round a patent dating from 2014 and filed by Samsung. For its part, the smartphone market leader has yet confirmed anything.
